"All This Attention On A Baby"
December, 2004

As we think of the upcoming Christmas celebration, we are confronted again with a lot of focus on a little baby. For people who do not know this baby, they may not be too impressed. When some think of this celebration that has occurred for thousands of years, they may think Christians are a bit obsessive or possessive. By the way, what do you think of this little baby

wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger? I know for a fact that many who do not yet know Jesus personally get really excited about this baby Jesus. He provides them a future hope. You and I should be introducing people to Jesus, the Savior of the world. “How do I do this?” You ask.

Well, I have made a simple observation about our church in the last 6 months; there has been a whole lot of attention on two babies; Katie and Nino. No one has been shy or inhibited from introducing them to others. Have you noticed they have changed the focus of people when they come to church. Have you noticed it is not just the parents or grandparents that present them to others! Prayer partners introduce people to them, friends take their turn to hold and introduce them to others. Pastor introduced them to the whole church. Whenever someone new comes in, people make sure if they are close to these babies that the new people are introduced to Katie & Nino.

These two children, though very precious and dedicated to the Lord, are not the Savior. They may be used of God to introduce the Savior to people someday. But for now, they are our precious children... So back to Jesus. Song writers have written, “What Child Is This;” they have asked, "Who would have thought this little child is who the prophets say;" they have called him, “Little Lord Jesus”, “Christ Divine”, “he is Joy from heaven come down.” The Bible has called this baby, “Messiah”, “Lord”, “Wonderful”, “Counselor”, “Mighty God”, “Prince of Peace”, “Holy One”, “Emmanuel”, “God with us” and “Jesus because He will save His people.” See, take all we have learned in loving two precious ones in our church, and embrace the Savior this year. “Turn your Eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face” and introduce yourself to Him.

Joyfully Serving,

-Rev. Gene Hill, Pastor
